Doing Things God’s Way: The Principle of Tithing
At AHAVA Kingdom Ministries International, we believe in aligning every aspect of our lives with God’s divine principles. One of the most profound ways to honor God is through tithing—giving the tenth of what He has blessed us with. Tithing is not merely a financial transaction; it is an act of worship, obedience, and trust in God’s provision.
The Biblical Foundation of Tithing
Tithing is rooted in Scripture and was instituted as a holy principle to acknowledge that everything we have comes from God. Leviticus 27:30 declares:
“A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.”
This reminds us that the first ten percent of our income or increase is sacred and set apart for God.
Abraham, the father of faith, exemplified this principle long before the law was given. In Genesis 14:20, after receiving victory in battle, he gave a tenth of all he had to Melchizedek, the priest of God Most High. This act of tithing showed Abraham’s recognition of God’s hand in his success. As believers, we follow in the footsteps of Abraham by bringing our tithes into God’s storehouse.
God’s Promise to Those Who Tithe
Tithing opens the windows of heaven for us. In Malachi 3:10, God extends an incredible promise:
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”
This verse encourages us to trust God fully. He challenges us to test His faithfulness and experience the abundant provision and protection that follows obedience in tithing.
A Heart of Worship
The heart of tithing is more than giving money; it reflects our acknowledgment that God is our provider. Proverbs 3:9-10 instructs:
“Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.”
When we tithe, we honor God, putting Him first in our finances. This aligns our hearts with His kingdom purposes and allows Him to bless every area of our lives.
Tithing Today: A Principle of Faith and Stewardship
Tithing is still relevant today as a spiritual discipline that teaches us to trust God as our source. Jesus affirmed this in Matthew 23:23 when He addressed the Pharisees, stating:
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill, and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy, and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.”
In this, Jesus acknowledges the importance of tithing while emphasizing that it should be done with the right heart.
Conclusion
At AHAVA Kingdom Ministries International, we teach that tithing is an act of obedience that unlocks blessings, nurtures faith, and supports the work of God’s kingdom. By faithfully giving our tenth, we do things God’s way, showing our trust in His provision and aligning ourselves with His eternal principles. When we honor Him with our firstfruits, we open ourselves to His divine favor, both spiritually and materially.
As you reflect on tithing, we encourage you to take that step of faith. Trust in God’s promises and see how He moves mightily in your life.
