As environmental concerns escalate globally, the Christian community is increasingly recognizing its role in stewardship of the Earth. The concept of stewardship is integral to Christian doctrine, implying responsibility and care for creation. As issues like climate change, pollution, and resource depletion become more pressing, more Christians are viewing environmental action not just as a civic duty but as a spiritual obligation.
A foundational verse for Christian environmentalism is found in Genesis 2:15, where God commands Adam to “work and keep” the Garden of Eden. This directive extends to all humanity, emphasizing a dual role: to cultivate the Earth and to preserve its integrity. This verse serves as a theological anchor for Christians engaged in ecological preservation, emphasizing that caring for the Earth is a form of worship and obedience to God.
